Is it safe to shop for Wheelchair accessible vehicles during the Coronavirus outbreak?
Since the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a lot has changed in the UK following the 10 week lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus. As the lockdown rules begin to be eased from June 1st, including car dealerships to be able to open, you may be wondering if it safe to buy or hire a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
WavsGB has remained open for the duration of the lockdown, hire vehicles are classed as an essential and we have helped many individuals, councils, businesses, the NHS and charities with wheelchair vehicles over the past 10 weeks.
During this time we have put full precautions in place and developed some new processes to assist our wheelchair customers in the safest way possible.
Hire or Buy a wheelchair car safely after lockdown
We recognise that many of our customers may be vulnerable and may have been shielding, but we also acknowledge they may have a need for a vehicle as the lockdown eases.
If you are buying or hiring a car from us, we are doing the following to keep you and our staff as safe as possible.

- Zero Contact – sales & hire
If you need to hire or buy a wheelchair accessible vehicle, we can assist you with your vehicle with no contact. If you come to the showroom we will stay at least 2 meters away at all times. Vehicles will be pre-cleaned and moved to a low-footfall area for you to view - Cleaned vehicles
All our vehicles are cleaned prior to any demo/test drive and again afterwards. If anyone moves or inspects the vehicles we clean the touch-points thoroughly with antibacterial cleanings. - Cleaned workspace
Our office/showroom is cleaned at the beginning and end of each day, and high risk areas including door handles, desks and chairs are cleaned after any new visitors arrive/leave. - Staff safety and precautions
Our staff are all healthy and will be sent home if there are any signs or symptoms of illness. We wash our hands frequently and wear masks when dealing with customers - Access
Where possible we will leave doors open to reduce the need for touching and increase air flow. In many cases customers do not need to enter the office and can be helped out on the forecourt – while maintaining a safe distance.
I need to buy a car but I can’t leave home…
If you are still shielding, don’t want to leave home or are unable to get to us. We can still help. At WavsGB we’ve always offered home demonstrations but we have now put extra precautions in place for visiting you in your home.
- We’ll bring the vehicle to you with no obligation
- Our staff will wear masks
- We won’t enter your home
- We’ll demonstrate the vehicle from a safe distance
- We’ll clean the vehicle before you enter/touch
- You can take the vehicle for a test drive unaccompanied
Booking a home demonstration is easy – just browse our wheelchair cars and select one that meets your needs/budget. Click the enquire button to book a demo, we’ll have a short chat with you to make sure it’s the best car and we’ll arrange a convenient time/date to visit you.
We’re here to help
We understand this is a scary time for many, but we want to reassure you that we’re here to help.
If you have any special requirements for a test drive or home demonstration – please do contact us. As a smaller company we can aim to be very responsive an accommodating for all our customers.
Do you have symptoms?
If you are planning to visit us or book a test drive/home demonstration and you or anyone in your household have Coronavirus symptoms, please let us know as soon as possible. In order to prevent the possible spread we may need to reschedule your appointment.
