If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter, you’ll have noticed we shared a video of a concept wheelchair that allows it’s users to stand.

It was mind blowing. This wheelchair, the Tek-RMD(Robotic Mobilisation device) not only gets you from A – B, but it also allows you to stand. To non-wheelchair users this may not seems like a big deal, but it is, it’s huge. Imagine talking to someone at eye-level, rather than being looked down on, or being able to prepare food in the kitchen and be able to reach for things without assistance or special equipment.

Take a look

The Tek-RMD

One unique feature of the Tek-RMD is that you board it from the back, rather than the front like a standard wheelchair.
The Tek-RMD can be pulled easily by the user and the user can board the device securely from its back. Mounting and dismounting the device can be done successfully in a much safer way since the user is doing so while in a seated position, and doesn’t place any unnecessary strain on themselves.
Standing is vital for the bodies health and the Tek-RMD encourages the user to stand. This position makes it possible to reach everywhere with free hands and perform daily tasks such as cooking, washing dishes, ironing, etc. comfortably in environments that are typically not set up for those with physical handicaps. Additionally the user can enjoy being at eye level with other people in his/her daily life.

The Tek-RMD is one of many wheelchair updates and concepts which are potentially going to make a huge difference to so many people.
