The VW Caddy Life is available in it’s standard size or the popular ‘Maxi’ version offering a longer vehicle allowing more space/seats. VW Caddy ‘s come in either rear wheelchair or passenger up-front adaptions.
Practical Accessible Vehicle
The VW Caddy Life (the window version of the commercial vehicle) is available as a rear or very popular up-front WAV.
The Up-Front conversion uniquely often comes with a removable passenger seat – allowing the vehicle to be used as ‘car’ when a wheelchair passenger isn’t on board. Caddy Up-front conversions come with a rear ramp (often powered).
The ramps on the VW Caddy are typically lightweight and easy to use with the wheelchair being located next to or just behind the rear seats.

The rear wheelchair versions of the VW Caddy offer three and four seat versions with the wheelchair situated next to or just behind the rear seats/
The Maxi version offers three, four and five seat options which allow the wheelchairt to be positioned behind the rear row of seats.
The Up-front versions typically have three seats with a removable front passenger seat and a slim flip-and-rotate seat in the rear. Some models come with two rear flip/rotate seats.
Available Space
Volkswagen Caddy WAV’s are generally seen as spacious vehicles – especially in the case of the Maxi model.
The standard caddy Life offers approx 1.5m length in the rear while the Maxi version offers 1.9m-2m in the rear.
The lowered floor allows for more comfort and headroom for the wheelchair passenger.
Ease of use
The VW Caddy is famous for it’s ease-of-use. They generally come with a lightweight or powered ramp and ratchet strap style restraints in the rear.
Many models have a powered winch to assist with wheelchair boarding.
The lowered floor in some models does create a ‘channel’ for the wheelchair which can make boarding a larger/electric wheelchair trickier than some other makes and models.
