The Ford Tourneo Connect is one of the most popular models of wheelchair accessible vehicle. Offering car-like comfort, good equipment levels (especially on the Titanium models) and easy wheelchair boarding.
The Ford Tourneo is available in a standard or ‘Grand’ version offering a longer vehicle allowing more space/seats. A variety of adaptions are available including rear wheelchair/up-front and up-front Drive Combined (switch).

A WAV For all circumstances
The Ford Tourneo Connect is available in a range of adaptions. The most popular is the rear wheelchair – where the wheelchair is boarded via a rear ramp and secured in place between or behind the rear seats.
The Up-Front conversion is a sought-after model offering a wheelchair position next to the driver. Access is via the ramp which extends from the front passenger door. This adaption allows full size rear seats for three passengers and a boot.
This WAV can also come in a Drive/Up-front combined (Switch) conversions which allows the wheelchair to be located in either the front passenger space or as the driver (this requires hand controls and a docking station which we can arrange for you)
Ford Tourneo Seating Options
There are a number of seating configurations on the Ford Tourneo some of them depend on the conversion type.
The Up-Front Passenger models have a driver seat plus full-size rear seats in the rear.
The Switch / Drive Up-Front combined models have variable seating. Many models come with four seats – with the front passenger or driver seat able to be removed to enable a wheelchair to be put in it’s place. The rear seats on Switch conversions are usually narrow lightweight seats wich fold and swivel out of the way to allow the wheelchair on board.
The most common Ford Tourneo Connect is the rear wheelchair conversion. The standard model typically offers three seats with the wheelchair located next to or just behind the seat. Some models have four seats – but the space is more limited on these versions.
The longer Grand Tourneo version can come with three, four and even five seats. The longer model allows far more space for the wheelchair and means it can be positioned behind a full-size row of seats.
Available Space
An important factor for many when choosing a WAV is how much space there is after the wheelchair is boarded. if you are planning on using teh vehicle for shopping or going on a trip you’ll need space for your bags or suitcases. You may also need to carry around additional equipment for the wheelchair passenger.
If you only need the WAV for occasional and local trips the standrad Tourneo Connect will be perfectly fine. If you have a larger wheelchair or plan to use the vehicle as your ‘family car’ the Grand Tourneo Connect offers approximately an additional 0.6 metres in length – enough for shopping bags or suitcases!
The Titanium higher spec models come with a glass roof which helps make the rear airy and bright – which can be especially beneficial for rear wheelchair passengers.
Ease of use
Whether you choose a Tourneo Connect or Grand Tourneo Connect – they are both easy vehicles to use. The rear wheelchair models have a standard drop down ramp (sometimes powered) and frequently a winch to assist with boarding.
The Up-Front models have a front ramp which extends from the front passenger door. These ramps are typically partially powered to rotate the platform with a manual action to lower the ramp to the ground.
Switch conversions have a powered rear ramp and tailgate controlled by remote to enable easy boarding by a wheelchair user travelling solo.
