With any used vehicle warranty there are a number of exclusions and points to be aware of .
A warranty provides valuable peace of mind when purchasing a used wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), helping to protect you against unexpected mechanical and electrical faults. However, it’s important to understand that not everything is covered.
Like all vehicle warranties, there are certain exclusions and conditions that apply.
Warranty cover can vary between providers, so it’s always worth reviewing the policy documents carefully to understand exactly what is included.
If you’re ever unsure about what is or isn’t covered, our team will be happy to explain the warranty provided with your WAV before you buy.
In most cases, routine servicing, maintenance and items subject to normal wear and tear are not covered. This can include components such as tyres, brake pads, wiper blades, bulbs and cosmetic issues such as scratches, dents or stone chips.
Modifications made to the vehicle after purchase may affect your warranty cover, particularly if they are linked to the fault being claimed for.
Damage caused by accidents, misuse, neglect or failure to maintain the vehicle correctly will not usually be covered.
To keep your warranty valid, it's important to follow the manufacturer's recommended servicing schedule and keep records of any maintenance or repairs carried out. Failure to do so could result in a claim being declined.
A diagnostic fee may initially be charged by the garage to find the reported fault. If a fault is found this charge is usually waived. If no fault is found the diagnostic is payable
The RAC will pay up to £65 per hour* for any approved work to be carried out.
Any amount above this rate is payable by the customer. It is your responsibility to check the hourly rate before agreeing to any work.
*Price correct as of June 2026.
