Things to consider
The Tourneo Custom boasts a high-roof and lowered-floor design, offering generous headroom, ease of access, and a flexible layout to suit different needs of wheelchair users.
Ford Tourneo Customs usually come with full size passenger seats in the rear (rather than the narrow seats used in other models) offering improved comfort for seated passengers. In addition many models come with removable fold and flip seats making the rear space highly customisable.
As Customs are larger wheelchair accessible vehicles they come with varying numbers of seats anywhere from four up to nine! The nine seat models are perfect for those looking for a minibus WAV which offers the flexibiliy of carrying nine seated passengers or seven passengers plus a wheelchair user.
The Ford Transit Custom is ideal for those looking for a spacious WAV. The models with between four and six seats offer a very spacious rear cabin which is highly suitable for shopping, luggage or other modeical equipment.
Like it’s cousin the Ford Tourneo Connect – The Ford Tourneo Custom is an easy vehicle to use but there are a few difference that are worth bearing in mind.
As this vehicle has much higher ground clearance (and is a much larger vehicle) the wheelchair ramp is usually much larger and longer. It is not common to see a Custom with a powered ramp – although some models do come with remote controlled lifts which make boarding the wheelchair much easier.
Many models come with powered winches to help get the wheelchair into the vehicle. Winches can easily be added to almost all Ford customs.
The vehicles are higher up than regular WAVs so there is a larger step up into the vehciel. Some come with side steps and these can easily be added if required.
The Ford Tourneo is the perfect choice for some buyers – but it’s worth bearing in mind that it is ‘van-sized’ and that may not be for everyone.
Perfect for larger familes, organisations and especially taxi drivers the Ford Tourneo Custom is a modern spacious vehicle offering easy access, lots fo room for passengers and the wheelchair user.
