What are Strokes and TIAs?

Strokes occur when the blood supply that goes to your brain is cut off – this results in essential nutrients, oxygen and other vital materials to become separated off from the brain. A TIA or Transient Ischaemic Attack is similar to a stroke and happens when there is a temporary disruption of the blood flow to a person’s brain. Similarly to a stroke, this means that Oxygen and other vital nutrients can become cut off. TIA’s are different to Strokes because they do not last as long as a stroke.

What are the driving implications?

When suffering a Stroke or TIA it may sometimes result in the person becoming wheelchair bound and can mean that they are unable to drive. Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles provide the wheelchair user with the ability to continue traveling and doing the things that they enjoy.  During the time after a recent stroke or TIA we know that there will be a lot of things up in the air with a variety of things that need to be resolved. We take the stress away from WAVs helping you through the whole processes from explaining the impact WAVs will have and also the different services that we offer and how they will help you!
